NISSAN EUROPE REPORTS MARCH SALES FOR 2008

ROLLE, Switzerland (April 2nd, 2008) - Nissan Europe has reported a record March with sales of 80,236 units, an increase of 42% year on year. With sales consistently ahead of the previous year over the past 12 months, 184,384 units have been sold to date this year.


Furthermore, Nissan Europe saw a record fiscal year* with 636,460 units sold, marking over 100,000 additional sales above the previous fiscal year and a 19% increase.  This has been the first year of significant growth in recent history for Nissan Europe since the Alliance was formed in 1999.


Simon Thomas, senior vice president sales & marketing and Western Europe sales operations commented, “This strong performance demonstrates Nissan’s ambitious strategy of sustainable growth in Europe. The success of Qashqai and the growth of sales in Russia have been instrumental in achieving such results, both in the context of a very competitive market.”


Key highlights


  • Most European markets within Nissan Europe’s regional business unit scope performed significantly higher compared to last year.


  • March saw the ‘B’ and ‘C’ segments perform well in March. Qashqai sales have been increasing month on month and March was no exception with 23,218 units sold.  Note sales were up by 48% with 13,637 units and the Micra with 12,508 vehicles and a 32% increase on last year.


  • The UK peaked at 19,286 units due to the registration plate change in March and saw an increase of 40% versus last year.


  • The new X-Trail sold 6,867 units this month was and sales were 55% higher than the previous model last March.


  • Eastern Europe continued its momentum of growth in a month where Russia sold 15,983 units, up 89% versus last year, and the Ukraine sold 2,322 units with an increase of 191%.
